YSU Student Chamber Music Recital Scheduled Outdoors on Saturday, April 24

Youngstown, OH…The Dana School of Music announces an outdoor student chamber music recital on Saturday, April 24, 7:00 p.m. in the lower level of the M30 Wick Avenue parking deck located on Youngstown State University’s campus. The recital is free and open to the public.

The recital will feature two student brass groups, the Sunset Brass Quintet and the Breakout Brass Quintet, both coached by Dr. Andrew Mitchell.

Music will be played alternately by the two quintets and include repertoire by composers Victor Ewald, Morley Calvert, George Gershwin, Frank Ticheli, Franz vonSuppé, Elmer Bernstein, Eric Ewazen, Kevin McKee and Anthony Plog.

Breakout Brass Quintet

Maria Mangine, trumpet (junior, BM Music Education, Lowellville, OH); Nick Mattiussi, trumpet (sophomore, BM, Music Education, Austintown, OH); Katie Berlin, horn (sophomore, BM, Music Education, Erie, PA); John Fitch, euphonium (sophomore, BM, Music Education, Lowellville, OH); and

Connor Remington, tuba (sophomore, BM, Music Education, Bethel Park, PA).

Sunset Brass Quintet

Darren Thompson, trumpet (senior, BA, Performance, Meadville, PA); Ryan Bowden, trumpet (freshman, BM, Performance, New Castle, PA); Severino Paredes, horn (sophomore, BM, Music Composition, New Kensington, PA); Brandon Hackimer, trombone (senior, BM, Music Composition, Pittsburgh, PA); and

Zak Rahal, bass trombone (senior, BM, Performance, Plymouth, MI).

Patrons should bring their own chairs, and are encouraged to enter the parking deck from the Wick Avenue entrance. Social distancing and masks will be enforced. Parking is $5 payable in cash.
