Kurt Cobain's Daughter Reveals Thoughts on Controversial Documentary

In 2015, Brett Morgen directed a documentary about Kurt Cobain. The film, called Montage of Heck, portrayed the Nirvana frontman's life — struggles with celebrity, drug addiction, and all. Upon its release, it became controversial. There were some harrowing scenes portrayed, and it didn't paint the best picture of the troubled musician. During a recent interview with The Independent, Cobain's daughter Frances Bean opened up about some of its harder to watch scenes, and her involvement in the making of Montage of Heck.

“That movie ended up being not what I wanted it to be,” she admitted. “The first half of the movie is really beautiful; the second half, we all ended up hating Kurt. We were all like, ‘You whiny little b***h. What is wrong with you?’ That wasn’t reflective of what we were trying to convey."

“I don’t regret working with [Morgen,” Frances clarified. “I regret not being in a headspace to be more involved. I was on a lot of drugs. I was not present. I was not capable of having authentic input.”

When asked what, if any, scenes she would have left out, she replied with the footage of her dad caring for her as a baby while clearly high. “I know they were real. I know about it, but I don’t know how necessary it was for the entire world to know about it," she said.
