YOUNGSTOWN CONNECTIONS TO THE SUPER BOWL

Youngstown will be represented at The Super Bowl this Sunday. A coach and three players on the New England Patriots roster have local ties. Derek Rivers and Damoun Patterson both played for The Youngstown State Penguins. Rivers played at YSU from 2013 to 2017 and set a school record with 41 sacks. Patterson lead the team his senior year with 555 receiving yards. Defensive end John Simon graduated from Cardinal Mooney in 2009 and was named Big Ten Defensive Player of the Year in 2012 as a senior at Ohio State. He was drafted by The Baltimore Ravens in the fourth round and also played for The Texans and The Colts. Frank Ross who played quarterback for Canfield High school and set some receiving records at John Carroll University is a member of Bill Belichick's staff. I think Bill still might have relatives living in Struthers. Cornerback Troy Hillof the Los Angeles Rams was born in Youngstown, moved to California and played college football for The Oregon Ducks.
