Chris Cornell, TOOL, Gary Clark Jr. Among Nominees For 2020 GRAMMYs

The nominees in the rock categories for the 2020 Grammys have been revealed; the list includes newcomers alongside rock legends from several different eras and genres.

The 62nd annual Grammy Awards will be broadcast January 26, 2020, live from Staples Center in Los Angeles.

The frontrunner in the rock and metal categories this year is legendary progressive metal band TOOL. The band is currently on a sold-out arena tour of the U.S. in support of its chart-topping fifth full-length album, Fear Inoculum.

Tool received one nod for Best Metal Performance for its near-16-minute epic "7empest" and another for Best Rock Song for the latest album's title track.

Gary Clark Jr.'s "This Land," the politically-charged title track from his acclaimed new album, was nominated for both Best Rock Performance and Best Rock Song.

Late-Soundgarden frontman Chris Cornell was nominated in the Best Historical Package category for a career-spanning box set released last November.

Black Sabbath guitarist Tony Iommi helped legendary British doom metal band Candlemass secure its first-ever Grammy nomination with his feature on the song "Astorlus - The Great Octopus," nominated in the Best Metal Performance category.

Rival Sons were nominated for Best Rock Performance for "Too Bad" and Best Rock Album for Feral Roots.

Radiohead's Thom Yorke secured a nomination in the Best Boxed or Special Limited Edition Package for his solo opus Anima.

The Producer of the Year, Non-Classical nominees include The Black Keys' Dan Auerbach for his work on Yola's Walk Through the Fire album; Fun./Bleachers' Jack Antonoff was nominated for his work on Lana Del Rey's Norman F---ing Rockwell!; Finneas O'Connell was nominated for his work on his sister Billie Eilish's debut, When We All Fall Asleep, Where Do We Go?

Finneas and his sister are likely to go home with some hardware, having been nominated in 11 total categories.
