Jack White was the honoree at the 10th annual Producers and Engineers Wing Grammy Week Celebration last night (Wednesday) at The Village Studios in L.A.
After receiving the President's Merit Award from Recording Academy head Neil Portnow, White explained that the role of the producer and engineer is to advance the vision of the artist and that "if you're not doing that, you shouldn't take the job."
His speech was followed by a four-song performance by Lillie Mae (Rische), the fiddle player in White's all-female backing group, The Peacocks. White produced her solo album, which will be out this summer.
Among those spotted at the event were Conan O'Brien, Beck, Regina Spektor, Lisa Loeb and Lukas Nelson of Promise of the Real -- the band that's been backing Neil Young the past couple of years. Nelson, who's Willie's son, told us he's been writing songs with Lady Gaga and that "she's a talented lady and we're having a lot of fun."
