A Georgia judge is making headlines with his "Elf on the Shelf ban." It was all a joke, but Judge Robert D. Leonard's court order banishing Elves on Shelves from Cobb County got some people pretty fired up.
According to the Washington Post, Leonard, chief judge of the Cobb County Superior Court, tweeted the mock order last Thursday, calling it his gift to tired parents. He pointed to the hassle of finding creative ways to move the elf each night, the sleep lost to more and more elaborate elf setups, and the disappointment kids feel when parents inevitably forget one night and the family's elf hasn't moved the next morning.
The company that makes The Elf on the Shelf happens to be headquartered in nearby Atlanta. They got in on the fun, releasing a statement on behalf of Santa and the elves that Judge Leonard has no jurisdiction over Christmas cheer.
